Curling

Here is our friend Ed sweeping away at curling.
Yes, curling... In pre-Olympic mood, we rented a lane and brought two teams of friends (turned out most had never tried) to play. It was difficult! Not at all as easy at it looks on TV. Ice was slippery, the move to throw the rock hard to get and worst of all, it was really difficult to get it in those rings on the other side.
Gabriel showing off some good moves.

Amanda (pay attention to her great Canada 2010 hoody!) came out for company and to watch Mango (thanks!!).

One gets sleepy from curling...

Skiing at Mt Washington, Vancouver Island

We spent last weekend at Mt Washington on Vancouver Island with old and new friends. It was fantastic! 15 persons in a large wooden chalet with fireplace and communal dinners and breakfast (Areli and Christopher make the best egg bennies!). Three metres of snow (as opposed to Vancouver mountains that all have suffered from last months rain), sunshine and great skiing.

Pay particular attention to the views... yes, what you see is the ocean!

Chris and Chris Yeomans after their Friday night skiing.
Malin was also on the Island... but we maximized the 13 hours of open ski lifts by taking turns being with Mango. So there is no photo evidence of her...

But Mango got new friends, here with Hannah.

Snow trip to Elfin Lakes

We returned to Elfin Lakes Cabin in Garabaldi Park near Squamish where we went in the summer time hiking. Joining us in our two day battle up and down the snow packed mountians were our friends Gabriel and Eric.

Mango continuing to nap in his carrier even after we arrived to the shelter, which we luckily had all to ourselves.

Mango waking up in his bunk bed to the news that there was piles of fresh snow outside.

After hours of breaking trail in the fresh snow finally we reach the ridge and the end is in sight.

Snowshoeing

Here we are at our first snowshoeing trip - Malin, Christina, Mango & Chris. It's been quite terrible weather the last weeks in Vancouver, just rain and rain so we made an effort to find that one nice day where we could climb Cypress Mountain with our snowshoes. Fun and good exercise (but a bit strange not being able to slide down the hill on the return...).

A break at the top with blueberry soup, chocolate and oranges (oh, and a great view!).

Tourists in Vancouver

Malin & Mango at the Steam Clock in Gastown
Christina stayed with us over new year and into to 2010 - what a great opportunity for visiting sights in Vancouver, do walks and shopping, (she is the photographer of this little photo series.)

"Can we go now?"
Mango waiting outside our favourite cafe on Granville Island called "Agro".

Malin is happier than Mango at Granville Island - here in front of real house boats.

Polar Bear Swim

Since 1920, Vancouverites have gathered at English Bay on New Year's Day to swim in the ocean. Malin who wanted to explore the true ways of life in Canada took the initiative to make sure we joined this year...

Costumes, parties and lots of fun - people take their swim seriously.

New Year's Eve 2009-2010

We hosted a small party at our place for New Year's Eve. A great group of 15 people for dinner & dancing. Here we are with hats...
